The Toyota Center
located in Houston opened in 2003 to provide an indoor space for a variety of
venues. Originally, it was the home of the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey
League, but today, the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association
uses this building for its home games. The Toyota automobile manufacturer
headquartered in Japan provided $100 million toward the construction of this indoor
arena in order to have its name used for the location, and additional money was
provided by the city of Houston and the Houston Rockets. This led to the total
cost of approximately $230 million for a stadium with these seating capacities:
• Concerts – 19,000
• Ice hockey – over 17,000
• Basketball – over 18,000
